Gillie first had her ears pierced when she was 11 years old.
She recalls how nervous she was but also how it symbolised her breaking away from her childhood.
At the time she only had the choice of wearing little gold studs, but even so it gave her the piece of individuality she craved so much.
Today, Gillie has five holes in her ears and prefers to wear silver.
